HOS Tawny Owl
Survey -
2011
INTRODUCTION
Data
from the previous BTO Atlas and the BTO Tawny Owl Survey 2005 has been
compared to the data for Tawny Owls recorded during the BTO and HOS
Atlas fieldwork carried out during 2007 – 2011. This has revealed
significant gaps in the distribution.
AIM
The
aim of the HOS Tawny Owl Survey 2011 is to fill in the gaps in the
Tawny Owl distribution in preparation for the forthcoming HOS Atlas and
to allow comparison between the atlases.
SURVEY METHODS
One
or more visit should be made to each of the tetrads to records the
presence of Tawny Owls particularly on still NOVEMBER evenings, the
optimum time being shortly after dusk. Records will however be
accepted for anytime during the period 1 November 2011 – 31st July 2012.
Please see the list of tetrads in which Tawny
Owls were recorded during the last Atlas and during the BTO Tawny Owl
Survey in 2005, but for which no records have been received during this
Atlas recording period. These are the tetrads for which records
are required. It would be helpful if you would let survey organiser,
Brian Sharkey
know which tetrads you intend to survey to ensure there is no
duplication of effort and to ensure coverage of all of the tetrads.
RECORDING THE OWLS
The minimum requirement is
to record if Tawny Owls are present in the tetrad.
