The last complete
survey of Sand Martin colonies in Hampshire was carried out in 1999. A
total of 26 sites was visited and of these 18 were found to have
colonies ranging from 12 to 650 active holes. The total breeding
population was 2843 pairs, which compares with a figure of 4763 in
1996.
