The WBBS is similar to the Breeding Bird Survey
(BBS), in that sites are randomly selected and birds are recorded
along a fixed transect route. Unlike the BBS though, the route is
along a waterway rather than being in straight lines across a square
plot. Identification of all birds both heard and seen is required but
territories are not mapped.
The WBBS is run by the BTO, and funded
by
The Environment Agency for
England and Wales
and by a consortium of water utility and waterways
companies
Additional WBBS observers are not currently needed
in Hampshire, unless you would also be willing to carry out a
Waterways Bird Survey (WBS) on the same water.
