The 6th Winter Gull
Roost Survey began in 2003/04 with counts of the most important winter
roost sites across the country.
Surveys of winter gull roosts have been undertaken in every decade
since 1953, and this survey will provide a good overview of the
current status of wintering gulls in the UK and how they have changed
over the fifty-year period.
WinGS is run by
the British Trust for Ornithology and funded by the
Countryside Council for Wales,
English Nature,
the Joint Nature Conservation Committee,
the
Environment and Heritage Service in Northern Ireland,
Northumbrian Water and
Scottish Natural Heritage
