Waterways Breeding Bird Survey

The WBBS is similar to the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), in that sites are randomly selected and birds are recorded along a fixed transect route. Unlike the BBS though, the route is along a waterway rather than being in straight lines across a square plot. Identification of all birds both heard and seen is required but territories are not mapped.

The WBBS is run by the BTO, and funded by BTO/RSPB/JNCC and others.

We have a small number of sites in Hampshire, one of which, in South West Hampshire near Everton is vacant. If you would be interested in surveying this site then please contact George Batho.
